Bowman baseball cards were first introduced by Philadelphia gum manufacturer, Bowman Gum in 1939. After a brief interruption during the years of World War II, production resumed in 1948 and the company began offering Bowman baseball, football and other sports themed cards. These cards continue to be popular among baseball fans and trading cards collectors and you can find a great selection of Bowman hobby boxes at BaseballFactorySets.com.
In the early part of the 1950s, Bowman was the leader in trading card production, until Topps began to overtake the brand and position itself as the leading manufacturer of baseball cards. Topps bought out Bowman in 1956, but began to use the name again in the late 1980s for specific sets. The name is now best known for the Bowman hobby box that is devoted to rookie players.
Topps uses their popular chrome technology in the Bowman Chrome baseball cards. Each year, a Bowman baseball hobby box is released with the upcoming rookies in Major League Baseball. Each Bowman box contains 18 packs with 4 cards each. Some of the highlights include one autographed rookie baseball card, Bowman Chrome prospect cards and more.
